In early 2017, the Rock Candy Media team heard about the Woman’s Way Awards from Austin Woman. These awards come from a monthly magazine read by the savviest women of Austin, TX, and are the only awards specifically for women-owned businesses in the area. So we threw our hat in the ring, along with our founder and CEO, Annie Liao Jones.
We were nominated for the Digital Influencers category, which seemed appropriate since she grew the company’s success through the kinds of social media techniques that bigger agencies were slower to catch on to. By March we knew that she was a finalist and we got to work, collaborating as a team on the award submission. (See the video below.)
In Her Own Words
Needless to say, the competition was fierce, with a selection committee of our cities’ most digital-savvy women.
We had our eyes on the prize and Annie rallied the team, as an influencer does. We’re not in the business of half-assing it, so if we’re going for an award, we’re aiming to win.
Why You Need a Digital Influencer Working on Your Business
The terms “Influencer” and “Influential” have been around for a couple of decades already, but they’ve become more relevant now that digital media has created a greater platform for independent voices. Influencers are the people who are responsible for driving trends, influencing mass opinion and, most importantly, selling many products and services. They are regularly the early adopters of technology and know about new trends in many categories like music, art, and fashion to name a few.
With the rise of social media in the past decade came the specialists, the people who get it.
The Internet is filled with a barrage of noise and content. With so many messages daily, individual judgment gives way to group judgment, or at least judgment that’s assisted by others online. When an individual contemplates a new purchase such as a mobile app, a medical practice for a treatment, where to shop or any of the myriad of stuff we consume, the masses seek out digital influencers.
These are the smart, well-spoken and decisive people who write online reviews, comments, blogs and, most importantly, friends and colleagues, to arrive at a decision.
Plain and simple – digital influence is the ability to create an effect, change opinions and behaviors, and drive significant and measurable outcomes online.
